My Archery Clubs

I started shooting archery over a decade ago in the JOAD run by Alex and Racae Meyer. The club is now called Austin JOAD Archers, and can be found at www.aajoad.com. I owe both of them so much to my early development, and have been impressed by the constant effort and dedication they have shown over the years to get kids and adults shooting and involved in the sport of archery.

Most recently, I've been a proud member, coach, and sometime-officer of the University of Texas Archery Club. I became familiar with the group as a kid when practices and classes at UT were still run by Tom Parrish. After he went on to work with the USOC and eventually Coach Lee, alumni James Corral stepped up to take UT Archery under his wing. His kindness and lighthearted approach to coaching were one of the many things that helped me through the four years between Athens and Beijing. He is welcoming to archers of all backgrounds, and has a way of bringing in the most amazing coaches, everyone from my HP-certified father Ron to World Champion Mary Hamm (formerly Mary Zorn), both of whom coach at least once a week on campus. UT Archery as a whole provided me with the social support, fun, and competitive spirit that every athlete needs to stay focused, especially during the college years. UT Archery has just instituted a competitive track for its archers, Team Texas, and I've been having a lot of fun helping to organize that and get some of the archers on track for Collegiate Nationals in late Spring. More information on the club can be found at www.UTarchery.com.
